2016 Jul 30th | FORGO FREEDOM CAMPAIGN

The Forgo Freedom Campaign is a Toronto-based online platform for anti-trafficking engagement...

...that creates an opportunity for awareness, reflection, discussion and personal participation while raising funds to support Aurora House and their mission to provide housing and support services to people who have been exploited.
Registrants all around the world can participate by giving up some of their freedom for 24 hours.
How does someone give up their freedom?
The very fact that we have the luxury of asking questions so we can make informed choices before we decide to participate is a departure from the experience of millions of people who are currently enslaved, trafficked and exploited.
Part of the purpose of this campaign is to help us really experience some of what it must mean to be exploited and to reflect on the freedoms we so often take for granted. On December 2nd, the International Day for the Abolition of Slavery, pre-registered participants will receive instructions intended to simulate some of the hardships faced by those who find themselves in exploitative situations. Each directive will be accompanied with information and reflections that will draw a connection between the directive and the reality of an actual experience of exploitation. In this way, we hope to increase an informed awareness of the various forms of human trafficking, slavery and exploitation.

The campaign has been designed to allow for engagement by anyone, anywhere, including those who must work, attend school, are responsible for dependents or have other commitments they feel might prevent them from participation.

2014 June 14 | AAMS's 4th Annual Conference

AAMS will be launching their research report on human trafficking in Ontario at the conference

Conference Details Saturday, June 14 10:30am - 4:00pm YMCA 20 Grosvenor Street Toronto M4Y 2V5 Only $20 (incl lunch) to learn and network with anti-slavery heroes and experts from Canada and around the world. AAMS is thrilled to have the UN Special Rapporteur on Contemporary Slavery coming, as well as a number of great national and local experts, including Loly Rico and Michelle Anderson of the Toronto Counter Human Trafficking Network. They are very excited to be releasing their report on the incidence of Human Trafficking in Ontario over the last two years. Given this is the first study of its kind in Ontario (and Canada to our knowledge), the team anticipates a lot of excitement, and the media to be present. It is only the tip of the iceberg, and a tool they hope will help networks and organizations across Ontario advocate for increased funding and support to combat human trafficking.
