Today’s show is aptly entitled Decoding Human Trafficking on the very day that the United Nations has declared to be World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. My guest for this very first important conversation is a very prominent and vocal advocate against human trafficking here in Toronto, Shae Invidiata. I’m so pleased that with her packed schedule, today of all days, she has been able to carve out an hour to spend with us to educate, inform and bring awareness to this multibillion dollar a year flourishing organized crime industry that spreads from the streets of the world to the homes of some of the most richest and powerful people in the world today.
Read MoreSo last month I wrote about a little bit of, Now What! Funny that theme often resurfaces. If I step back I can clearly see its about revisiting my traumatic past, therapy was a great friend during this process for me, as was journaling/writing out the anxiety pain and damage I had experienced. Now feeling somewhat whole, after licking my wounds it was time to Create a healthy life for myself. I still had to deal with my addiction recovery and found ample support there as well as a sponsor whom is still a trusted friend today over 20 years later. I started to develop real friendships though not all close ones but it was a process of building a tribe for myself, with those who understand and can relate to some of my experiences.

Read MoreThe growing criminal market of human trafficking has greatly expanded into the cyber world as Internet usage, speed and general online access have soared. The cyberspace is being used by traffickers as a means of recruiting victims as well as for advertising trafficking “services and products”. Read MoreI didn’t know what to do, I didn’t know how to be. There was a spark deep within that ached to be released but I carried so much pain and confusion. Muddy waters, like quicksand I realized the more I struggled the more I sank, learning to embrace it all and move on, great but how the hell does one do that when most of the world just didn’t understand. I knew somehow that this is not the way the human race was supposed to be like. I knew there was another side of life but I had no idea how to get there.

Read MoreJoin us on Thursday July 30th to expose the exploiters! There has never been a time in history where the uncomfortable topic of sex trafficking has come to the forefront the way that it is right now! We are witnessing a global awakening taking place across many countries and we need to keep this necessary conversation going!
I grew up with the message that a women’s role was to cater to men. And someone like me, had less options because I was less appealing. So when a groomer smelled that I was prime meat. Our sole purpose was to appease men and bring home the money, everything rotated around that even from a young young age. I had this feeling that we were nothing without a man present.

If you have not yet heard of this man or watched any related documentaries or news stories, he is not someone to look up to, that’s for sure.
Read MoreGlobally, there are over 5.5 million children who are victims of human trafficking. No one is exempt from being trafficked. Trafficking doesn’t discriminate against color, race, age, gender or religious belief. With that said though, young girls and women are the most sought after gender by a trafficker. Human trafficker’s lurk everywhere, even where you least expect it.
Read MoreIn early June 2020, there was outrage as headlines appeared saying that “Intoxication was a Defence for Sexual Assault”. The outpouring of disgust on social media was prominent and loud. Women and men who had experienced sexual assault and those who are passionate about the laws surrounding this issue spoke up. I decided to take a look at the conversation and see what I could unpack.
Read MoreThrough my encounters with teachers I have mostly been confronted with blank faces of disbelief that sexual exploitation in Canada (as local as Toronto) existed at all. All of them dumb founded at the idea that a 13 year old girl in the school system could be lured into sexual intercourse with strangers willingly.
Read MoreThe control I lost, the control I truly never really had. It was easy to groom, to control someone like me, as it was plain to see I was already broken and hurting. But grooming can happen to any age; teen or pre teen, even grown ups still get caught up in the woven web of deceit.
